My family and I would like to welcome another large group of new subscribers to my bi-weekly newsletter. I appreciate your interest in what is happening in Blue Springs and your support of our City. If you have friends who also are interested in the exciting progress happening in our town, just send me their email address and I will add them to the distribution.

Eighteen months ago, in a conversation with Culver’s real estate broker, I suggested Culver’s should reconsider opening a restaurant in Blue Springs. The owners took that suggestion to heart and Culver’s is now open in the Mall at Fall Creek. Their staff is enthusiastic and eager to please and the food is varied and freshly prepared. I hope each of you will stop by and thank the owners, Matt and Jeannie, for choosing to invest in our City.

The results of our survey regarding a possible future aquatic park are in. Our pool design consultant has also prepared some options for the city to consider based on input public forums that were held earlier this year. If you are interested in looking at the possibilities, the survey results and design ideas can be found at http://www.wedesignpools.com/Projects/BlueSprings/Home.htm.

Last week the City Council approved the contract to begin work to relieve morning traffic congestion on Woods Chapel road. What is even more exciting is that the estimates came back lower than anticipated at a total of $264,000. Since the City Council budgeted one million dollars for improvements on Woods Chapel it means that we will be able to consider expanding the improvements beyond the original project with the remaining $736,000. Our residents have been waiting over a decade for these improvements. The waiting is now over and we are moving forward with the redevelopment of the Woods Chapel corridor!

Last month the City Council approved a resolution to add a Disc Golf Course in Young Park. This project has been on the drawing board for many years. The combined efforts of citizen groups StandUp! And Renew the Blue working together with the City’s Parks & Recreation department and the Blue Springs School District, have made this new amenity to our City possible.

The Steamin’ Bean coffee house is scheduled to open just before Christmas. They are located in front of the movie theatre on north Highway 7. In addition to coffee they will be serving a variety of Gelatos. Gelato is an Italian ice cream. I had the opportunity to try some of their Gelato this week and it was wonderful. This locally owned and operated business will be a welcome treat to our residents.

Party Depot recently opened in the Mall at Fall Creek. They are prepared to meet all of your party and decorating needs. The owners (who grew up in Blue Springs and are graduates of Blue Springs South High School) had setup business in another town. When they learned about all the exciting things happening here in Blue Springs they decided to move their business back home. I hope you will welcome them by stopping by and checking out their new store.

Many of you are aware of Scooters Coffee house on south Highway 7 between Price Chopper and Zeke’s. I recently attended an evening class there called “Appreciating Espresso” taught by Trevis, the owner of the coffee house. Trevis taught about the history of coffee/espresso and walked us through the various ways espresso is served and enjoyed. If you have the opportunity to drop by and sign up for this interesting class I highly recommend it.

There is a lot of activity happening in Chapman Farms on the southern edge of our City. Many homes and businesses are under construction. If you haven’t driven south lately it would make a great Sunday drive to check out the various projects that are underway.

The Heritage Philharmonic orchestra will perform their annual Holiday Favorites Concert at Blue Springs High School Performing Arts Center at 7:30pm on Saturday, December 15. The Delta Woods Middle School Honors Choir will join them again this year. Tickets are available at the door. For more information about the Philharmonic and their concert season please go to their website at http://www.HeritagePhilharmonic.org.

The Adams Dairy Landing shopping center is now under construction. If you have a favorite restaurant or store you would like the developer to consider locating in our shopping center please email me your suggestions (Jeff@JeffreyQuibell.com) and I will pass them on for consideration.

Several of you have asked for me to publish information about upcoming City Council agendas. The link to the City Website page where agendas are regularly posted is http://www.bluespringsgov.com/City Council/2007/council_agenda_listing2007.htm.
