Jeff Quibell’s Blue Springs Newsletter,
January 25, 2008
It’s been a cold January in Blue Springs this year, but we’re busy working on several significant issues that will affect our city’s financial future and quality of life for our residents.
In my last newsletter I extended an invitation to you to join me for a Kick-off Party for my Mayoral Campaign. Unfortunately, the original location is not quite ready for us to use. Instead, we will have the party at the Blue Springs Country Club, 1600 NW Circle Dr. There is a link for a map at the end of the newsletter. Please join us on January 31, 2008 anytime between 5pm and 7pm. I will be speaking to the group briefly at 6:00 pm. I am looking forward to meeting each of you and hope to have an opportunity to listen to your goals for our community in person.
As a result of discussions with many of our constituents, Councilman Shaver and I have been working together on a new exterior property maintenance ordinance. The purpose of this type of ordinance is to help maintain the quality of our neighborhoods without placing an undue burden on our property owners. I expect that we will be discussing this with the entire council at one of the council meetings in February. I would be interested to hear your thoughts on this issue.
For many years Blue Springs has had a reasonably strong smoking ordinance. Heightened awareness of the dangers of smoking and elevated interest from our residents prompted the Council to discuss strengthening our ordinance in our January 12, 2008 work session. During the January 22, 2008 City Council meeting, we approved the first reading of an ordinance that would eliminate smoking in many of our restaurants and work places. The Council will be voting on the second reading of this ordinance at our February 4, 2008 council meeting. I am interested in hearing your thoughts on this complex and passionate issue before this important vote. A link to the proposed ordinance is at the end of this newsletter.
Listening to our resident’s goals for our city and expanding opportunities for them to interact with their city leaders is important to me. As I shared this goal with friends, several have suggested that I should provide opportunities for regular open discussions with our citizens. I liked this idea, so with this newsletter I am announcing the opportunity to meet with me informally in “Fireside Chats with Jeff”. On Monday, January 28, and Tuesday, January 29, from 9pm until 10pm I will be at The Steamin’ Bean on North 7 Highway in front of the Blue Springs 8 Theater. I hope to establish a regular schedule of these informal discussions, and look forward to visiting with you about the issues of the day.
Recently I was asked how I distribute my newsletter. As many of you are aware I own a software development company here in Blue Springs. I also own the email servers that I use to distribute this newsletter. Since my last newsletter went out, the readership of my newsletter has again grown substantially. I appreciate how many of you are forwarding this to your friends or sharing the email addresses of those who you believe might be interested in receiving this. To sign up just send an email to me at Jeff@JeffreyQuibell.com or visit my website at www.JeffreyQuibell.com. I appreciate your help expanding our ability to communicate with each other about issues important to our city!
